February 16, 2009 - I'm ONE

We celebrated Miles birthday on the Saturday prior, which made it Valentine's day. It was a good day. Good weekend actually, a lot of family came down from out of town and stayed. Miles loved the company! Seemed a little bit strange at first to have so many people in the house when he woke up from his nap but he adjusted quickly. I "attempted" to make a fancy birthday cake for him. Boy that is not easy!! I honestly thought it would be, oh well. It turned out okay I guess, main thing is that it tasted good :) So it was suppose to be a guitar (Miles really likes guitars, drums too but tell me how would you make a drum set out of cake?) and I had to improvise slightly when I ran out of frosting (thanks Grandma for the help). Miles liked the singing of Happy Birthday, really wanted the candle in the cake, but was not quite sure what to do with the cake when he got it. Aunt Laura tried to help him out but he just wasn't too sure he liked cake. And when he finally did get his hands into it that silly frosting was just so sticky!! He started wiping his hands trying to get it off, not happening, and than the tears came. Poor boy ( he usually loves to make a mess and get food all over himself). So the cake wasn't a hit, but he LOVED his presents :)

Aside from birthday news, he is almost ready to walk. Getting more brave all the time. Oh I almost forgot, he finally has teeth!! He had 3 teeth pop through all at once (a few weeks ago now) and is waiting for the 4th which is almost through. Talks all the time... his own language of course, though we can make out a few words here and there. Like; ball, book, Vern, teddy, yeah, what, kitty, Elmo (loves Elmo). I think there is more but I can't think of them right now, I left out momma and dadda figured those were just a given. He really is just lots of fun most of the time. Poor Vern has to deal with getting ears pulled (he really doesn't like that), and being a jungle gym (which he doesn't seem to mind)... I am excited for it to warm up and than we can begin to play outside.
